Rick Kelly to Drive Nissan's V8 Supercar Challenger for First Time

2013-nissan-altima-v8-supercar-005

Rick Kelly will drive Nissan's new V8 Supercar challenger for the first time this weekend.

The Nissan Altima will be on display publicly at the Sydney Telstra 500 on Friday and Kelly, who won the title in 2006, will run the car's first laps on Sunday morning.

Built to the new 'Car of the Future' regulations by Kelly Racing, which changes to Nissan Motorsport for 2013, it will be on view in the V8 Supercar Pit Pavilion.

"The interest in the Nissan Altima V8 Supercar has been overwhelming all year, especially now that we have unveiled the first car," said Kelly.

"So we are pleased to show fans our first Nissan Altima V8 Supercar, the car that will dawn the new era of V8 Supercars from 2013, at the final event of this season at the Sydney Telstra 500 this weekend."

The two-time Bathurst winner says being a part of its development makes him even more excited about the run than the fans.

"While I'm sure that the fans will be excited to see the Altima in the flesh for the first time, there's no doubt that the most excited person to hear this news confirmed is actually me," he said.

"I've been busting to get my first drive of the new Nissan all year long as we've been watching the car take shape in the various departments of our team workshop.

"So to get the chance to drive the Altima V8 Supercar in front of a crowd at the Sydney Olympic Park street circuit is going to be a fantastic buzz."

Nissan DeltaWing Included in Popular Science’s "2012 Best of What’s New"

2012-nissan-delta-wing_600x0w

Though the Nissan DeltaWing has not done too much in the racing world yet, it certainly has gained its share of notoriety. The latest notoriety is likely one of its biggest achievements , as it was named to Popular Science’s "2012 Best of What’s New" list, which is included in the December 2012 printing of the magazine.

Popular Science releases this list every year, which contains 12 different categories and covers 100 new technologies, so making the cut is quite the achievement. We have certainly enjoyed watching the DeltaWing grow ever since it was just an unusual concept on a piece of paper, so its inclusion comes as no surprise to us. Even with its unusual proportions and relatively low power output, the DeltaWing has already run in the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Petite Le Mans and is set to run as a classified car in the 2013 American Le Mans Series.

While the 24 Hours of Le Mans race didn’t turn out too well, the Petit Le Mans ended very well, with the Delta Wing placing in the top five.

A belated congratulations to the DeltaWing crew on its fifth-place finish at the Petite Le Mans and a huge congratulations to it for this awesome recognition!

A Positive Review from DealerRater!

Dealerrater_full

Check out this glowing review we received from a happy customer!

"From the first follow up internet call made to me, to the moment I stepped foot in the dealership these guys at Red Bank Nissan made me feel like i was their most important customer. The dealership treated me with the utmost respect and professionalism!!

Greg my sales agent helped me thru the test drive and inspection of the vehicle and the sales manager Tom Wall made the usually tedious and cumbersome job of financing the vehicle one that made us both feel like we received the best value for our dollar and it was painless. I walked away with a smile.

The business manager Robert Broit made the final step painless and helped me get thru all the paperwork with ease.

I would recommend these guys to anyone in the market for a new or used vehicle with confidence that they will also receive the same exemplary service."

Nissan concept at L.A. Auto Show hints at future crossover

Nissan

Concept vehicles at auto shows are a funny business. Some are far-off interpretations of current vehicles, which may never see actual production. Others are merely thinly-disguised previews of something an automaker has up its sleeve in the next year.

Nissan's Hi-Cross Concept falls distinctly into the latter category. The vehicle, which will be a part of Nissan's display at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, wears typical concept window dressing like a space-age interior and exotic headlight and taillight treatments. Yet the fundamentals of this concept's shape, size, and design all hint at a forthcoming version of Nissan's Rogue crossover SUV.

Nissan has had a busy 2012, launching all-new versions of its seven-passenger Pathfinder SUV, the Altima midsize sedan and the compact Sentra. That trend will continue in 2013, with a new Rogue being the next new vehicle to hit Nissan showrooms. The vehicle is rumored to go on sale in early summer 2013, and a production version will probably break cover at the 2013 New York Auto Show in late March.

Though the production version will have real headlights, the basic proportions of this concept's grille, front bumper and headlight shape are similar to other Nissan products like the Murano and Pathfinder. Given the ubiquity of the continuously variable transmission (CVT) throughout Nissan's lineup, this vehicle will very likely have one. Power will no doubt come from a four cylinder engine in the base Rogue.

Nissan Plans For New Hybrid, Plug-In Cars: One Per Year

Nissan-logo-opt

Nissan might be investing heavily in its electric car program, but the automaker hasn't forgotten hybrid vehicles completely.

In fact, the company is set to launch one hybrid or plug-in car per year for the next few years, allowing it to compete in a market where hybrid vehicles are gaining increasing market share.

Joining existing vehicles like the 2012 Infiniti M35h, Nissan is developing a range of hybrids and is set to implement mild hybrid technology across its range.

We recently drove a prototype of the luxury hybrid crossover  in Japan. It pairs a supercharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a single-motor hybrid system, boosting torque and allowing the car to drive on electric power alone under light loads.

Following the Infiniti JX, Automotive News suggests a plug-in hybrid will follow in 2015 (though Nissan is revealing no details as yet), and the company aims to release at least one hybrid a year over the next several years.

The increase in hybrids and plug-in hybrids at Nissan is thought to be a symptom of slow full-electric vehicle sales.

Even so, Nissan still believes that some form of electric propulsion is the future.

"All vehicles need some form of electrification," said Mitsuhiko Yamashita, Nissan's executive vice president for global R&D, "Motor assistance really is key. Otherwise they can't meet fuel economy requirements beyond 2015."

Meanwhile, 'micro hybrid' technologies like stop-start and brake energy regeneration are expected to permeate throughout Nissan's range, improving the fuel efficiency of even regular models.

Called S-Hybrid--S for 'smart' or 'simple'--Nissan says the technology can boost economy by around 10 percent, for a cost of around $1,910 or less.

2014 Nissan GT-R to be more fashionable

Gtr

A couple of days ago, Nissan released the 2013 version of the GT-R with a few mild updates to make the car more refined. More substantial changes are saved for the 2014 model, as revealed by GT-R chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno in an official statement.

The new changes will have nothing to do with performance. The GT-R has no direct rival in terms of performance, so why would Nissan try and beat themselves? Instead, they are going to expand the car’s customer base and attract new buyers.

To that end the next GT-R will be more “fashionable” and better looking than the current car. GT-R buyers are predominantly those who want performance at a budget.  While that is excellent from a petrolhead’s point of view, the car's image could improve. That is why Nissan is seeking new customers to develop a new persona for the GT-R. The new fashionista GT-R will have a fancy interior and probably new vibrant colors. They have already come up with an “Amber Red” special edition GT-R in Japan.

To learn more about the direction Nissan GT-R is heading, pay attention to Mr. Mizuno in the video below:
