Monday Maintenance Tip: Check Your Battery Terminals

Hey fans, here's a Monday Maintenance tip: Most modern cars run on a 12 volt negative ground electrical system. If your battery terminals or contacts aren't clean, you're making it more difficult for the current to pass around the electrical system. Remove the terminal caps and clean each contact post with a wire brush to get a nice clean metal contact surface. Do the same to the terminal caps, then reattach them.

2013 Nissan LEAF to get 155 miles on single charge

Word out of Japan has it that the 2013 Nissn LEAF will got upgraded range and a second, entry-level model.

Reports suggest that the 2013 Nissan LEAF, that will hit dealerships at the end of this year, will have a range of 155 miles. The extra range will be achieved by “improving the efficiency of motors and aims to improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries installed,” the report said.

Nissan is also considering a cheaper version of the Nissan LEAF. In the North American market, the price reduction could bring the base price of the LEAF to $26,600.

Nissan’s New Pathfinder Sheds 500 Pounds

The Nissan Pathfinder will make an evolutionary leap this fall, shedding as many as 500 pounds and boosting its mileage by nearly 30%.

The current Pathfinder is one of the last midsize SUVs still based on “body on frame” architecture. Its passenger cabin rests on a heavy steel frame adapted from a pickup truck. During the 1990s, body on frame SUVs made billions for the big auto makers in the U.S. Today, truck-based SUVs are being crowded out of the automotive ecosystem by smoother-riding, more efficient crossover vehicles. These are minivans in most key respects – flexible seating, car-like handling, no heavy frame, not much real off-road capability – but have enough styling attitude and all-wheel drive technology to lure consumers for whom “minivan” is a four-letter word.

The new Pathfinder will straddle the minivan-SUV divide when it launches this fall, with a pronounced lean toward the family-friendly side.

It’s a “family vehicle.” To drive home that message, Nissan will promote features such as a “Latch and Glide” second row seat, that can tilt to allow older kids to get into the third row without requiring Mom or Dad to unlatch a baby seat in the second row.

By shedding the truck frame and engineering out pounds in the seats and elsewhere, Nissan engineers cut the new Pathfinder’s weight by 300 to 500 pounds, depending on the specific model. The new Pathfinder has a 3.5 liter, 260 horsepower six-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission rated at 20 miles per gallon in the city, 26 on the highway and 22 overall. That’s nearly 30% better than the old, six-cylinder Pathfinder.

2013 Nissan Pathfinder Production Model Revealed

Earlier this year at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, Nissan unveiled its 2013 Pathfinder Concept and it appears the Japanese automaker is now ready to show off the production model.

 

Nissan subtly released four images of its 2013 Pathfinder model in production form on its Facebook page ahead of its official debut later this year. The five-seater, unibody crossover departs from the body-on-frame predecessor, and it appears that the only changes from the concept to production model is the addition of plastic protectors on the lower part of the bumpers and side skirts.

We still expect the Pathfinder to be powered by Nissan’s popular 3.5-liter V6 with 265-hp and 248 lb-ft of torque.
